  1. I can't speak to the accuracy of this list, but what a shame to see so many outstanding works listed here!

  2. I read some of these books (The Scarlet Letter & Of Mice and Men; Selections from Cujo)) as ASSIGNED READING in High School, in the late 80s. Others were assigned reading in college English classes. If you're easily offended by something in a book, you have two choices: put down the book and stop reading, or grow a thicker skin!

  3. This is so offensive, and comes from the hard right Republicans in the US. They are religious freaks, making horrible decisions, and reminds me of the Hitler era. The US is becoming very communistic, and fascist in so many ways--ditto NSA/PRISM spying, and wire tapping the world by having access to everyone's email, and telephone and cell numbers

  4. I don't know about public schools, but I just checked our public libraries for several of the works and was able to find them all available -- multiple copies and multiple formats.

  5. I haven't seen the banned book list for years. It was nowhere near as long as yours. Most of them were old and not previously considered unsuitable. What changed in the meantime, assuming your list is correct?

  6. Uh, Anonymous Aug.8, you should doublecheck your logic. It's not just Republicans responsible. We're concerned everything is racist and scared to put out a book about Communism. A movie like "Atlas Shrugged" is put out, suppressed, and hardly even advertised. Who's responsible for that? Not Republicans.
