Good News Is Not Spectacular

I said it before, and I'll say it again: life is tough.

Now, that might be by design, or it might be just the way it is. I for one am at a stage right now where I find the question in itself irrelevant. I'm more interested in how to deal with the whole mistery of life on a practical level.

Thing is I could easily fill up this blog with negativity, tell you about the going-ons in Mexico, all the bad news that's out there.

But what would be the point of that?

There is, however, a point in coming up with good news.

Downside is, you have to look for it - it's work!

I mean it, and not because of my particular circumstances: it requires effort to come up with good news.

BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT IT AIN'T OUT THERE!

Just today I received some very unsettling, bad news - and in the same event something was said that made me feel extremely good.

Now, my mind is easily impressed by bad news, it feeds on it - if I let it.

I rather go the extra mile, look for (and usually find) these little gems in my life, the 'good-news' items.

Misery is easy, it's happiness you have to work at.

Why is it 'raining cats and dogs'?

Way back in England, where the English language obviously originated, houses had thatched roofs - they were piled high with straw, with no wood underneath.

It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof.

When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof.

Hence the saying “It’s raining cats and dogs.”

Understanding Engineers

A pastor, a doctor and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers.

The engineer fumed, "What's with these guys? We must have been waiting for 15 minutes!"

The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such ineptitude!"

The pastor said, "Hey, here comes the greens keeper. Let's have a word with him."

"Hey George. Say, what's with that group ahead of us? They're rather slow, aren't they?"

The greens keeper replied, "Oh, yes, that's a group of blind firefighters. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime."

The group was silent for a moment.

The pastor said, "That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight."

The doctor said, "Good idea. And I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist buddy and see if there's anything he can do for them."

The engineer said, "Why can't these guys play at night?"

Why Do Brides Carry A Bouquet?

Easy! Way back a lot of people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May.

They still smelled pretty good by June.

However, since they were starting to smell the brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor.

Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
